Welcome to Nontrinsic, where nonsense lives on!

This page outlines our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. By using Nontrinsic, you agree to these terms.

Terms of Service

1. Use of Service

Nontrinsic is a free and open-source platform licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License for archiving nonsense entries. On Nontrinsic, “nonsense entries” are creative text submissions intended for artistic or humorous expression.

Use the platform in good spirit. Specifically:

  • Be respectful. Do not submit slurs, hate speech, explicit sexual content, nudity, pornography, or graphic violence.
  • Minor profanity is tolerated, but keep it light.
  • Do not include private or personally identifiable information about yourself or other people.

We reserve the right to moderate, refuse, or remove entries that violate these terms at the sole discretion of the platform maintainer.

2. Submissions

Account Requirement

Submitting nonsense entries through the platform requires a registered account to reduce spam.

Only nonsense entries submitted through official Nontrinsic submission channels with the clear intent of archival inclusion in the database are considered valid submissions under these terms. For Nontrinsic, “official channels” refers to submission mechanisms operated or explicitly recognized by the Nontrinsic platform maintainer.

Anonymity

Displayed nonsense entries are anonymous and are not publicly linked to your account. However, the database may contain a reference to the submitting account by its UUID (for submissions through the Nontrinsic platform) or the original username (for submissions from other official channels).

This information is not publicly displayed but may appear in database exports or the public API.

License (Text Content)

All textual nonsense entries are released under CC0 1.0 Universal—anyone may reuse, remix, archive, or redistribute them without restriction.

Do not submit copyrighted text unless it is clearly de minimis or you have the legal right to release it under CC0.

Media (Images & Video)

You may upload media to accompany nonsense entries. Nontrinsic currently supports uploading of images, but can also support video from other official channels of submission.

Media files are stored on Supabase Storage. The database only stores URLs referencing those files.

By uploading media, you grant Nontrinsic a non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, display, and distribute the media as part of associated nonsense entries.

Media files are not automatically released under CC0 unless you explicitly own the rights and intend to do so. You must not upload copyrighted, infringing, or illegal media.

Finality of Submissions

Nonsense entries are considered final to preserve the archival nature of the platform. Entries submitted through other official channels may be merged or structurally adjusted for clarity. However, entries that violate these terms may be removed.

If you have submitted an entry that you did not intend to submit, you may request removal by contacting nontrinsic@linerly.xyz and providing the UUID or the link of the entry. Removal requests are handled at the sole discretion of the platform maintainer.

Deleting your account does not automatically remove previously submitted nonsense entries.

Database Access

The nonsense database can be downloaded at any time from the List page.

Privacy Policy

1. What We Collect

Nontrinsic does not track you or collect analytics.

If you create an account, we store:

  • Your email address
  • A securely hashed version of your password
  • Optionally, your display name

Authentication and storage are handled by Supabase.

2. Data & Visualization

We use Tableau Public and a self-hosted instance of Metabase to create data visualizations based on nonsense entries from the publicly downloadable database.

Nonsense entries may contain a user field that stores the internal UUID of the submitting account. This UUID does not contain personal information and is not publicly displayed in official clients1. For older entries or entries that were submitted from other official channels, an original_user field may contain the original username for attribution purposes.

These fields are used as the basis for contribution attribution in public dashboards and may appear in API responses or database exports. Attribution displayed in the dashboards may be updated for presentation purposes (for example, if a username changes). The dashboards may display historical contribution counts based on the original_user or related attribution fields, even if an associated account is later deleted. The user and original_user fields are not displayed publicly in official clients. Public dashboards provide aggregated informational views and do not expose individual account credentials or private account data. Mapping between user UUIDs and display names (usernames) in dashboards is handled separately.

There is no behavioral tracking, advertising identifiers, or third-party analytics being used to track individual users.

3. Account Deletion

You may delete your account at any time through the user settings page on the web app. Alternatively, you may request account deletion by contacting nontrinsic@linerly.xyz. Deleting your account permanently removes your account credentials and associated email address.

Previously submitted nonsense entries will remain in the database and may still reference the internal UUID of the deleted account. However, once the account is deleted, this UUID is no longer linked to identifying account information within the platform. Deleting your account does not remove entries that you have submitted. Nonsense entries are preserved to maintain the integrity and archival spirit of the platform.

NONTRINSIC IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. THE MAINTAINER OF THIS PLATFORM IS NOT LIABLE FOR USER-SUBMITTED ENTRIES OR EXTERNAL USE OF CC0 MATERIAL.

If you have questions or concerns, feel free to contact nontrinsic@linerly.xyz.

Thanks for being part of the nonsense galaxy!
