Update on X's blue checkmark Following the European Commission's Decision of 5 December 2025, we must explain the meaning of our blue checkmark and verification policies: Premium accounts featuring the blue checkmark are not verified under. identity or authenticity criteria (accounts verified based on an ID are labelled as "ID verified"). As you know, on 1 April 2023 we began winding down Twitter's legacy verification program: Previously, to receive the blue checkmark, accounts had to be authentic, active, and deemed notable by Twitter staff (for more information on the legacy policy, please click here). Now, following the changes implemented to democratize the platform, the blue checkmark has a different meaning and identifies accounts that have an active subscription to X Premium/X Premium+ (including services such as reply prioritization) and are complete, active, secure and non-deceptive, regardless of perceived notability. X supports freedom of speech and does not endorse or validate the views expressed on accounts featuring checkmarks.
